Bahama Queen – to her intimates “Cleo” – for Cleopatra

Gertrude Lythgoe was the only woman to have a wholesale license for liquor in Nassau, Bahamas…She became world famous as a high quality bootlegger.

She counted her bottles and barrels herself and even ran the rum run to the coast of New Jersey with Bill McCoy whose liquor was guaranteed to be the “Real McCoy”. She was always very elegantly attired.
